Title
Removable Prosthodontics: New trends in the new era (oral presentation)
Summary
Although edentulism has decreased over the past 3 decades, the adult
population in need of removable prostheses will increase in the future. Patient
awareness of dental appearance has increased, resulting in more demanding
esthetic requests. There is also strong evidence that increasing patient
involvement and providing esthetics is highly significant for partial or complete
denture acceptance and success. Taking notice of patients'
perceptions of natural appearance and esthetics, the clinician can incorporate
their preferences in the construction of individualized dentures that will be
harmonized with their facial characteristics.
Improved function through increased stability and retention is also a
feasible option in nowadays and must be considered in treatment planning. This paper, through the presentation of
various clinical cases focuses on the analysis of the dentogenic effect and
tries to match anatomic determinants of gender, age and personality in the
selection of denture teeth. In order to reproduce these features, various
guidelines and esthetic aspects of denture construction are suggested, as far
as tooth arrangement, tooth type, pink acrylic modification, flange form, metal framework
design, and other modifications are concerned. Methods and techniques increasing functional
stability of the prosthesis while improving their esthetic appearance will be
analyzed in an effort to make removable prosthodontics a valuable and
successful clinical option.
