Title
Private practices may
provide an important role in improving the learning experiences for
undergraduate and graduate students
Summary
In private practices members
of dental profession have traditionally been providing comprehensive preventive
and therapeutic care to their patients. In recent years private practices have
shown increased community involvements, including the opportunities for
improved learning experiences to undergraduate and graduate students.
These learning experiences are
enriched by the main attributes of private practices, such as care for the
patient and the staff, friendly environment as well as the experienced
provision of preventive and therapeutic dental care. In this clinical
environment students are getting more exposed to the "real dental world". It is
shortly after that they are to become full-fledge members of the dental
profession and these experiences will provide the link between the knowledge
and skills they have acquired and the challenges related to patient's and
profession's expectations.
It is more common
understanding that in private practices undergraduate students are likely to
observe, whereas the graduate students may have a direct involvement in the
provision of patient care. This presentation will also include the information
regarding the learning experiences from a specialist pediatric dentistry/orthodontic
dental office.
Overall, the learning
experiences that the undergraduate and graduate students are to obtain from
private practices are designed to improve their ability to relate to patients,
parents and the staff and this may not necessarily be part of the teaching
curriculum at Dental Schools.
