Title
The art and
science of ceramic veneers
Summary
Ceramic veneers present a conservative treatment of esthetic deficiencies in
the anterior region. Tooth shade, shape and form can be altered to
satisfy any esthetic requirement. Conventional ceramic veneers mainly
cover the facial and incisal aspect of anterior teeth and are well documented
in the literature over long clinical follow-up periods. However, high
success rates require a strict, controlled clinical protocol. During the
last years, altered tooth preparation forms have been introduced with an
extended tooth coverage compared to conventional veneer preparation design.
The purpose of this presentation is to present, in an organized manner, a
step-by-step clinical protocol for the clinical implementation of ceramic
veneers. Starting from the diagnostic steps required, the treatment
planning sequence and the presentation to the patient, the lecture will follow
through to clinical treatment sequence of tooth preparation, provisional
restorations, definitive impressions, try-in and final cementation.
Various laboratory aspects of ceramic veneer fabrication methods will be
stressed as they relate to the clinical long-term results. The clinical
guidelines will follow an evidence-based approach.
By the end of the presentation the participants should be able to acknowledge
the indications and contraindications of ceramic veneers, as well as the
clinical steps required for predictable esthetic results and long-term survival
with a reduced risk for complications.
