Title

Root canal preparation with rotary Ni-Ti instruments

Details

Hands on course

Duration

Participants: up to 40

Cost 150 euros

Rotary root canal preparation using Nickel-Titanium instruments has been introduced into endodontics 20 years ago and meanwhile nearly has become the standard technique for root canal preparation. The number of instrument systems and special torque-control motors still is increasing. Modifications in material and changes in instrument design are claimed to further improve preparation and ease of rotary preparation.

In the first part of the course a review is presented on the most important details in the design of NiTi instruments and on the main instrument systems as well as on advanced preperation techniques (crown-down, single length, hybrid techniques, NiTi in retreatment). The advantages and shortcomings of NiTi instruments and the contraindications for their clinical use are discussed.

In the second part the participants will exercise on plastic blocks and extracted teeth with different rotary NiTi systems (FlexMaster, ProTaper, BioRace, Mtwo)

Organisation

Max. 40 participants (20 motors will be available; max 2 participants per 1 motor), the number of participants depends on size of the room, each dentist should have an own working place, possibility to adapt 20 motors to electric current, enough light).

Motors and instruments willbe provided by VDW.

Each participant has to bring the following materials:

Extracted teeth: 3-4 extr. molars with curved canals and completed intact root tip (no wisdom teeth), access cavities already have to be prepared, a radiograph would be helpful

Device for adjustment of the rubber stopper on the instrument

5 mL syringe and irrigation needle

Gutta-percha points sizes 30-40

Instruments (K-files) sizes 08-15

Gloves, tweezer, probe
